How To Select The Right Tattoo
A specific tattoo design is usually chosen based upon what the person likes and also on how dependent he or she is on what others think. Finding a tattoo artist is a fairly simple procedure and friends can generally recommend someone they have heard of or an artiste who inked a design on them. Depending upon why you are wearing a tattoo, such as for a gang, or you just want one to represent something about yourself, it is fairly easy to make contact with a good designer.
Sometimes, the chosen design will reflect another country and its culture in some way. This is why you will often see North Americans with Chinese characters as tattoos on their bodies. Dragon tattoos are also popular and they also reflect Asian culture, especially in the way they are designed and the backdrop that the dragon is usually placed against.
Mainly people choose tattoo designs based on popular culture. When the Dark Knight and Transformers were released, there was an increase in tattoos of the bat symbol and the Transformers logo. During the height of the Simpsons popularity many people were getting Bart and Homer tattoos with their catch phrases. Anything that is on television, in the movies, or related to music can be used as a tattoo idea. The problem of course is that tastes in popular culture change so rapidly, and a tattoo of a Simpsons character will likely no longer seem as cool as it perhaps once did.
A third way to pick a tattoo design is based upon friends and what they have. Teenagers tend to want to fit in, and will pick a design that their friends are wearing. While this can be seen as belonging in one way, it is also a part of the teen culture to want to dress alike, act alike and fit in. Even if you don’t get a tattoo that is exactly the same as what others have, you may choose a tattoo picture design that is similar to what others are wearing. For example, some people who are on a spiritual path may choose a design that relates to where they are emotionally and spiritually.
While the choice of a tattoo design often comes down to what looks cool and is popular, either in our culture generally or within your circle of friends, the important thing is that you are happy with it and that you expect to still be happy with it many years down the road. The unfortunate thing is that tattoo art design and the world change so quickly, and it is often that people are seen with tattoos that look many years out of date. That doesn’t matter, of course, as long as you are happy with it.
